The transport sector has a critical role to play in achieving climate change mitigation targets. As a global fleet management and mobility company, ALD Automotive | LeasePlan aims to reduce carbon emissions by accelerating the adoption and penetration of green vehicles and supporting circularity through the “reusability” of vehicles.
This solution aligns with SDG3 on health (increased road safety), SDG7 on energy, SDG8 on decent work and economic growth, SDG9 on resilient infrastructure, and SDG11 on sustainable cities (access to transport and expanded public transport). In addition, sustainable transport will enable the implementation of nearly all the SDGs through inter-linkage.
ALD Automotive | LeasePlan is committed to driving this transition towards electric vehicles. In 2023, 32% of new cars delivered globally by ALD Automotive | LeasePlan were green vehicles, this is 11% higher than the market, making a positive impact on reducing CO2 emissions. They are leading by example with 7% of their UAE portfolio being sustainable which is significantly higher than the market.
The company has defined a three-pronged approach both globally and locally to drive the sustainability agenda – Advocacy, Education, and Facilitation.
1) Advocacy: raising global awareness about the impact of climate change at various forums such as EV100 and the World Economic Forum.
2) Education: publishing whitepapers on the Car Cost Index and Total Cost of Ownership.
3) Facilitation - providing consultancy to clients on how to transition towards a greener fleet by changing car policies and aligning its sustainability strategy.
