Climate Solution of the Week - UNILEVER

Climate Solution of the Week - UNILEVER

Unilever Gulf FZE, a proud member of the Dutch Sustainability Group spotlights the extensive use of Solar energy in its Dubai Personal Care (DPC) factory. A 1MW Solar PV Park was successfully installed on the site and a 0.7MW Solar thermal (Hot WaterGeneration) Plant that generates ♨️ Hot Water at 90°C for use in its production facility. This supports cutting down its Scope 1 and 2 emissions as it generates clean electricity, catering to 15% of the site's electricity demand while serving more than 42% of the site's heat demand, thus lowering the use of fossil fuels and contributing to a reduction in GHG emissions.

As a result, Solar PV has 0kg CO2 impact per KWH when generating electricity, while Solar thermal means that the CO2 emitted for the generation of 1 m3 of Hot Water is 11kg less (41%) than with using only gas-fired boilers.

Over the last 5 years, Solar PV (Solar Electricity Generation) has saved approximately 4,000 Tonnes of CO2 emissions while Solar Thermal has saved 1,600 Tons of CO2 emissions which is the amount 300,000 trees would absorb in 1 year. Both the Solar PV park and the Solar Thermal Park are proving that Solar Energy can be adopted within the region to power factories and reduce greenhouse gas emissions in operations.
